Happy 2008! I can hardly believe that another year has passed us by. It seems only yesterday that we were complaining about the heat and dealing with the cicada invasion. The “Conductors” our nick name for the band had a pleasant last season including quite a few private parties from graduations to house warming. Remember to think about using the Conductors for your next function. It will make your special occasion a time to remember. At this time I would like to publicly thank the following for supporting The Pullman Conductor of Jazz. Radio personality John Russell for featuring the band on his fine program “Midwest Ballroom” that you may catch on 90.9 FM WDCB in the Chicagoland area from 5-7PM. A big thanks to Jim O’Connor who put together this site and made it possible for us to be on the web. If you’re into steam railroading like I am be sure to check out Jim’s site at Discoverlivesteam.com As we move forward into 2008 I will try to post here about where will be performing or please write me at tubamen29 at cs dot com and I'll put you on my e-mail list. Please make sure that "Pullman Conductors of Jazz" is written in your e-mail head. -Conductor Matt
Article from the Brookfield Jazz Society: April 12 Tonight we again featured live jazz on the menu. The band providing the entertainment was the Pullman Conductors of Jazz, a band that plays Railroad Music in Dixieland, Swing, Ragtime, Blues, and Jazz styles. Members heard a varied assortment of tunes that tickled their musical palette. The band consists of Matt Puralewski (tuba/vocals), Jack Rusnak (cornet/vocals), Dennis Trainor (clarinet/tenor sax), Larry Rutan (banjo/guitar), and Kevin Mann (trombone/vocals). The evening started off with Just a Little While to Stay Here, followed by a steamin' version of Midnight Special that featured some nice trombone work by Kevin. Duke Ellington's Creole Love Call was next with Dennis playing clarinet. Shake that Thing featured the whole band on vocals, together with trombone, saxophone and tuba solos. Lonesome Railroad Blues brought the first set to a close. The second half of the evening began with a Turk Murphy arrangement of Woody Guthrie's This Train featuring Kevin on vocals and some fine solos by Dennis on saxophone and Larry on banjo. Dennis' clarinet and Jack's cornet were prominent on If I Only Had You, which was followed by South and a rousing Tiger Rag that featured some "dirty" trombone by Kevin and a vocal by Jack. The Bucket has a Hole in it again showcased Jack on vocals, together with trombone and clarinet solos. That old New Orleans classic Bourbon Street Parade, had some nice trombone work by Kevin, and this led us into the final tune of the evening which was the ever popular When the Saints Go Marching In, with a band vocal and trombone, clarinet and cornet solos.
We will be performing April 12th, 2007 for the Brookfield Jazz Society in Brookfield, IL starting at 7:30pm. Please visit the BJS web site at http://www.brookfieldjazz.org/ for further information about this event.
