Brand New 1" scale 3½" gauge
I've just completed this 1” to the foot scale model, my third and smallest steamer. Since it’s a narrow gauge locomotive, it runs on the popular 3.5” gauge track. The engine and tender are over 40 inches long, and the engine stands about a foot tall at the smoke stack. The combination weighs about 60 pounds dry. I kit bashed an O.S. Porter kit to make this model of Fulton County Narrow Gauge Railway No2, a Brooks Mogul. (My previous engine was 2.5" scale, coal burning FCNG No 1, a Baldwin American.) A very complete printed history by E. W. Mureen of the railway is included. (The publisher has only 5 copies of this book left in stock.) I also have a number of early photos of Brooks locomotives of the era that I used to get this one looking right. This model has a factory designed propane burner installed and comes with the grates for coal capability, but it has only run on air so far. So it is museum clean, like new because it is. The valve gear is Stephenson with sliding valves. The boiler has a current certificate. It is constructed of copper and silver solder with seven fire tubes and 2 superheater tubes. It has an operating pressure of 100 psi. Boiler includes a stainless steel superheater and three safety valves. Water is input to the boiler by an OS steam injector, a hand pump in the tender, or an axle pump (with a bypass valve on the tender). There is a convenient blow down valve on the right side. Water capacity is 1.4 liters. There is a simulated whistle in place of one safety valve on the steam dome and a real 4 inch single chime whistle under the right side of the cab. The loco has a gorgeous wooden cab with hinged roof, dual arm bell harp, Dustin builder's plates and decals, and a proper working LED headlight. Specification from OS is that this loco can track a 15 foot radius turn but I was planning on 20 foot radius minimum. Also, you get all the
special OS tools, taps, flue brush, coal shovel, spare fasteners (neatly bagged
and labeled) and the complete factory assembly book, complete parts list, and
operating manual. The kit with options is about $7300 and has to be shipped from
Japan. I’ve spent over 300 hours in the making. It’ll cost you It is all located in Missouri. Delivery is possible within reasonable distance for a fair price.
