7.5" Gauge Winton Mogul

 SOLD

7.5" Gauge Winton Mogul

This locomotive was built by the late Harry Dixon and was never run other than on air in his shop.  It served as a display unit inside a bay area insurance business for many years.  It is absolutely 100% brand new!  And very nice....

The coal fired boiler is copper and has been hydro'ed at our club, GGLS, but cannot receive the official boiler cert until it's fired up...   There were many minor plumbing leaks that need to be attended to prior to lighting it off but once that's complete you will have a brand new Winton Mogul.

Typical Winton engines have a one piece cast tender body but this engine has a hand form copper/brass tender tank that is simply beautiful.

There are 2 cross head pumps and an injector for boiler feed water.

$16000.00   Located in the East Bay Region of California.

This project has been going for quite some time now and it has finally been wrapped up after 5 1/2 long years of work. This engine was started from the original series "Call me Elda" that ran in Live steam way back in the mid 80's. I ventured down this path and soon realized that the engine as designed was a bit too much for my liking so I took it upon myself to completely redesign and reengineer using what I could obtain from commercial suppliers and set out making chips! What you have here is a 3" to the foot scale little logging work horse that is comprised of the following:

  • Jean Villet's original ELDA frame modified to have new 3 point suspension.

  • MEG Steam 2" bore cylinders.

  • A 10" briggs Boiler with 39 5/8" copper type K flues.

  • Hydro'ed at GGLS in June of 2009 have cert and boiler number on locomotive.

  • Propane fired burner assembly with 16 Solar Flo burners

  • Lots of RMI railworks detail items such as domes, head light, and bell.

Everything else on this engine is hand machined, hand formed, and or worked over in such a way to make this finished product look right.

This engine is a real work horse that can be backed up by many references! It runs like a champ and will pull like crazy while still lifting the safeties zipping along that track. It has been run about 4 times since I completed it this past month including a grueling week at train mountain in which we ran late into the night and pulled varying loads. The tender is fabricated to contain the 6 gallon propane tank within so you don't need to see it as you run along! It also hold tons of water that is supplied to the boiler via 2 super scale injectors as well as a hand pump for good measure. The tender rolls on RMI trucks. Its very nice and is a pleasure to run and look at! There are other irons in the fire so it's time has come to offer it up for sale......
